March is a month for celebration!
Same Sex Marriage
Peter McGraith and David Cabreza from north London had been partners for 17 years before they tied the knot at one-minute past midnight on, 29 March 2014, making them the first same-sex couple to marry in the UK after the passing of the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013.
Census 2021 (a survey about all the households in England and Wales) took place on Sunday 21 March 2021. For the first time, the information was collected online, but more importantly, this year gave a valuable opportunity to ensure that LGBT+ people are counted! This is a huge step forwards, thanks to the tireless campaigning from LGBT+ organisations and individuals. Currently, there are only estimated figures on the number of LGBT+ people, and there’s a lack of data about the inequalities we face.
Wednesday 31 March 2021 is Transgender Day of Visibility! TDOV is a day to celebrate the resilience and success of transgender and gender non-conforming people, whilst raising awareness of the much needed work that is yet to be done. The day was founded by transgender activist Rachel Crandall from Michigan in 2009 to celebrate and acknowledge the living members of the trans community. We encourage our transgender community to be proud to be visible, and cis allies to be proud to show their support!
